Welcome to the 2024-2025 School Year! The staff at Challand Middle School is looking forward to welcoming all our students back to school. Families will be updated monthly on events, updates, and important information.

Winter Weather Alert!

As we approach the winter months, please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day. We will continue to go outside for activities as long as the "feels like" temperature is 15 degrees or above. This means children should come to school with warm coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and any other necessary winter gear to stay comfortable and safe outdoors. If your family needs assistance in obtaining winter clothing, please don’t hesitate to contact the CMS office. We are here to support our students and ensure they are prepared for the colder season.

Reminders for These Next Two Weeks

The semester is quickly coming to a close, and we’re officially in the final two weeks! As we approach the finish line, we encourage all students to stay focused and finish strong. This is a crucial time for students to:

  • Catch up on missing work.

  • Retake quizzes and tests where applicable.

  • Turn in all assignments to ensure they meet their academic goals.

Let’s work together to help every student end the semester with success!

Fun Festivities Before Winter Break

As we wrap up the semester, we’ve planned a fun and festive week for students to enjoy before the holidays. From Monday, December 16, through Friday, December 20, students can participate in optional dress-up days (see below).

On Friday, December 20, we’ll combine learning and celebration:

  • Morning: Students will attend all their regular classes.

  • Afternoon: Students can choose between:

    • Watching or participating in the Dodge Ball Tournament.

    • Joining a variety of classroom activities such as:

      • Cookie decorating (thank you Walmart, for your donation of 700+ cookies!)

      • Holiday movie viewing

      • Arts, crafts, and games

To make this day extra special, we’ll be reaching out to families soon via Sign-Up Genius with a list of items you can donate to support these activities. Your generosity will help us create a memorable and fun way to end the semester!

Thank you for your continued support of Challand Middle School. Let’s make these last two weeks of the semester great!

Winter Break: A Time to Rest, Restore, and Prepare for Success

As we approach winter break, we encourage all families to use this time as an opportunity for rest and restoration. After a busy first semester, students benefit from taking a step back to recharge physically, mentally, and emotionally. Whether it’s spending time with family, enjoying a favorite activity, or simply relaxing, these moments are essential for starting the second semester strong.

We also want to remind parents to remain mindful of their children’s online activity during this time. Social media can be a valuable tool for staying connected, but it’s important to monitor usage to ensure your child is making positive choices and staying safe. Talk with them about their online habits and set boundaries if needed, so this break is a healthy and productive one.

Winter break is also an excellent time to prepare for the second semester. Students must earn credits to stay on track for grade-level promotion. If your child struggled during the first semester and did not pass all their classes, they may need to complete credit recovery, attend summer school, or in some cases, face retention. It is crucial for students to demonstrate mastery of grade-level content and standards.

Parents, please take time during the break to talk with your child about their academic goals and strategies for improvement. We are here to support every student in reaching their full potential and are committed to working together with families to make that happen. Let’s use this winter break to refresh, reflect, and prepare for a successful second half of the school year!

If you ever have specific concerns, you can always reach out to CMS administration or your student's counselor, our school social worker, or your student's teachers for support! We are here to assist you in creating the safest, most successful environment for your student! As a reminder, students can also report concerns via email or Safe2SpeakUp on their iPads or phones.
